Diese kommen aus ganz unterschiedlichen Bereichen: zum Beispiel aus der Forschung, Museen, Bibliotheken, Archiven, NGOs, der Verwaltung oder dem Gesundheitsbereich. So vielfältig diese Zielgruppe auf den ersten Blick sein mag, sie eint das Interesse an der Umsetzung partizipativer Projekte, an gemeinsamer Wissensproduktion und dem Einbezug der Bevölkerung. Genau in dieser Kombination aus Unterschieden und Gemeinsamkeiten der CAS-Teilnehmenden sehen wir eine grosse Chance für das Von- und Miteinander-Lernen und für die Vernetzung mit Gleichgesinnten, die sich in ganz anderen institutionellen Umgebungen bewegen und zu den verschiedensten Themen arbeiten.

As the European Citizen Science (ECS) project enters its final year, we are celebrating our achievements through a distributed series of events across Europe. Organised in collaboration with the Slovenian Citizen Science Network and Public Libraries, and as part of the ECS final event series, A celebration of the ECS archipelago, we are organising a day of collaboration and capacity building. This event focuses on the journey through the development of the ECS digital meeting point, the citizenscience.eu, showcases citizen science impact stories, delivers training on citizen science and highlights the importance of public libraries in creating community and enhancing scientific literacy. To fill in the gap in physical conferences, the Living Knowledge Network will organise an online “festival”. It is a joint effort of Groningen University and international partners. You will be able to see and hear some presentations that were originally scheduled for the physical conference. And participate in a number of workshops and live sessions. To make the best out of the situation, many presentations will be done by pre-recorded videos. This will allow you - in whatever time zone you are - to watch them when you want to and discuss them through a chat function. Video presentations will also limit connection problems we hope. During the festival, there will be a social corner to continue discussions, and we intend to organize a few thematic discussions. Like the live sessions and workshops, these will however be during European daytime only. More information will be available soon, as we’re still working on logistics. But we do hope to meet and greet all of you soon, even if it has to be online for now!

The 8th STS Italia Conference will be hosted by the University of Trieste, Italy, June 17 through 19, 2021, by the Italian Society of Science and Technology Studies. It is our pleasure to announce that the calls for abstract are now open until December 18th, 2020. The conference will be an opportunity to present empirical and theoretical work from a variety of disciplines: sociology, anthropology, design, economics, history, law, philosophy, psychology and semiotics. The focal theme of the 8th STS Italia Conference will be "Dis/Entangling Technoscience: Vulnerability, Responsibility and Justice”. This broad theme refers to the complex and ambivalent role of technoscience and innovation in constituting societies – making possibilities flourish, but also creating new vulnerabilities. The conference will include 28 tracks, which are clustered into five thematic streams. The tracks focus on several topics, including: biomedicine, digital platforms and media, work and organizations, expertise and public policy, ethics of technology and innovation, and governance of science and technology at large. Abstracts (written in English, or in Italian in case of tracks in two language) should be submitted by December, 18 to the conference email address (stsitaliaconf@gmail.com) and to the emails of convenors' selected track. BBK Open Science Fest 2021 is an open and participatory science festival that offers all citizens the opportunity to enjoy, socialize and learn about science, technology and innovation. This festival presents a wide and varied program of participatory performances and experiences. In addition and for the first time, Bilbao will hold an international meeting of open and community science, in which we will connect with scientists from different parts of the world, such as New York, Mexico and Switzerland. They will show us their citizen science, community biology and social innovation projects. Attendees will be able to learn and do science with them in a fun and entertaining way (you can even sign up for a Mindfulness session!). Should science focus on issues of public importance/respond to public concerns? What are the benefits of citizen involvement in scientific research? What are the pitfalls? These and many more questions are frequently raised by those engaging or wishing to engage in Citizen Science (CS). This two-day workshop is designed to provide input into what CS is and how CS projects can be implemented in universities and research libraries. The workshop will focus on: • The basics of CS and its benefits; • Requirements to take into consideration when involving citizen scientists in research projects; • Examples and benefits of integrating CS into educational programmes; • Practical guidance on how to develop and implement CS projects; • Examples of CS research projects. The workshop will be of a highly participatory nature, with participants required to work in small groups during their own time. The first session will take place at 10.00 CEST on the 2nd of June, followed by a session at 14:00 CEST on the 4th of June.

The panel will present the results of the Crowd4SDG report developed with the guidance of the Advisory Group. Several National Statistical Offices and other organizations will share their experiences and work on the use of citizen science data. Following the presentation of the Crowd4SDG tools developed for citizen scientists,the event will also feature "Propose your Crowd4SDG challenge" segment in connection with a public competition to be launched later this year to develop citizen science projects that tackle climate change and gender inequality. The 3rd biennial conference of the Citizen Science Association will be held in conjunction with Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society in Phoenix, AZ, in May 2021.

In this Mutual Learning Encounter, we will be tackling the topic of commercialisation of data. This includes purchasing and granting access to databases for research and commercial purposes, and open issues regarding data ownership. In particular, we wish to discuss on how best educate end users on such issues under consideration of the GDPR.
