Do ocean users put their health at risk by practicing their activities?
The ocean is polluted by chemical substances, but no study today shows their consequences on our bodies. Moreover, surfers are immersed all year round in coastal waters whose sanitary state they do not know.
To find out whether chemical pollution of the ocean has an impact on the health of surfers, Surfrider has launched the CURL experimental project.
The CURL project aims to assess the level of exposure of users (surfers, divers, bathers) to chemical pollutants in coastal waters.
To do this, volunteer "Waterman Testers" are trained and equipped with "chemical" sensors. They will measure the concentrations of organic and metallic chemical pollutants in recreational coastal waters.
Aim
Analyze the exposure of ocean users to chemical pollution of the ocean and the consequences on our health.
