Medusa a la vista
from 05/04/2008
The Medusa a la vista project focuses on documenting and monitoring jellyfish and other stinging pelagic organisms in Catalan coastal waters, using geolocated observations submitted through the MINKA platform.
Aim
The aim of Medusa a la vista is to engage citizens in the observation and documentation of jellyfish and other stinging pelagic organisms along the Catalan coast, generating open and high-quality biodiversity data. Through the MINKA citizen observatory, participants contribute georeferenced observations that support marine research, coastal monitoring, and environmental awareness. A key objective of the project is to validate and share these citizen-generated records through the GBIF occurrence dataset, ensuring interoperability, long-term accessibility, and reuse of the data for scientific research, policy-making, and marine conservation.
How to participate
Create an account on MINKA (web or app), upload an observation (photo + date + coordinates) of jellyfish or other stinging pelagic organisms along the Catalan coast; help validate and identify observations collaboratively.
Needed equipment
Smartphone or camera to upload the geolocated photos to the MINKA platform.
