MƗẊɄFȦB - Dispense
This training resource provides an introduction to Citizen Science through three progressive lessons covering the core elements of participatory research. The first lesson presents Citizen Science as a democratic research approach, outlining its key principles, benefits for individuals, communities, and science, and different forms of participation. Participants learn how to define research questions and identify citizen scientists while considering equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The second lesson focuses on data collection methods and ethical guidelines, including different data types, quality standards, and tools such as observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups. It also addresses the role of metadata and key ethical and legal considerations, including GDPR and informed consent.
The third lesson introduces impact assessment through a flexible framework covering scientific, social, economic, political, and environmental dimensions, supporting participants in planning data collection and reporting project impacts.
The course is designed for researchers, community organizations, educators, and citizens interested in participatory research. By the end, participants will be able to design citizen science projects, apply ethical data collection practices, engage diverse communities, and assess the multidimensional impact of their activities.
