MƗẊɄFȦB - Migrant Citizens Scientists in an Urban Farmhub

Active

from 16/06/2025 until 16/01/2026

Project Title:

MIXUFAB: Community-Led Migrant Entrepreneurship for Policy Impact.

Description:

MIXUFAB investigates how community-led migrant entrepreneurship can foster local policymaking through space creation. An urban lab will be established for citizen scientists to collect and analyze socio-economic, political, and urban data at the local level.

The lab serves as a hub for participatory policy co-creation, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and policy advocacy focused on migrant-led entrepreneurship and space use. Our approach recognizes migrants as knowledge producers with unique insights into local socio-economic and urban dynamics.

Citizen scientists will document how migrant-led entrepreneurial activities reshape urban spaces, influence community interactions, create new social configurations, and generate economic value. Their observations and experience will provide co-created, evidence-based insights to support more effective, responsive, and bottom-up social, economic, and urban governance.

Participant Tasks:

  • Collect and record data on entrepreneurial activities and urban space use.

  • Participate in workshops and discussions to co-design research questions and tools.

  • Analyze and interpret findings collaboratively with researchers.

  • Share observations to inform policy recommendations and local decision-making.

Aim

MIXUFAB aims to investigate if and how community-level migrant entrepreneurship can foster economic and social inclusion, through a regenerative and inclusive approach. This objective will be pursued through the creation of an urban lab, with migrant citizen scientists managing and co-mining socio-economic-political-urban dynamic data on the topic with other local communities.

How to participate

Participation in the MIXUFAB project primarily involves being recruited as a Citizen Scientist through a targeted engagement process that leverages existing migrant community networks  as trusted entry points. The project plans to circulate an "open call to enrol as Citizen Scientists" by posting on migrant-led Facebook groups in the Bergamo and Lodi area and distributing flyers in key community spaces like libraries. The initial engagement phase, starting in June 2025, focuses on presenting the project objectives to community spokespersons and members to identify and select the final participants.
